Non-Exam Assessment

GCSE & A-Level Coursework: Rules & Guidance

At Exam Centre Manchester, we're committed to helping you succeed in your GCSE and A-Level studies. For some subjects, you'll also need to complete a Non-Exam Assessment (NEA) as part of your final qualification. To give yourself the best chance of a strong result, we'd recommend starting your coursework at least one month before the exam board's submission deadline — beginning early gives you enough time to plan, complete, review and refine your work without unnecessary stress.

Non-Exam Assessment (NEA): Steps to Get Started

As part of the examination process, you'll need to complete the Non-Exam Assessment (NEA) component for some of your subjects. Here are the five steps to follow:

1

Meeting the Tutor

We'll arrange a 10-minute video call with your tutor to discuss topics and schedule your required 4-hour sessions. These can be split into 1-hour slots or arranged to suit you, either online or face-to-face.

2

Follow the Guidance

Your tutor will give you guidance and feedback during each session. It's important to follow their instructions closely, so you can improve your coursework and submit the best version possible.

3

Session Completion

Finish all your scheduled sessions with your tutor and apply their feedback to refine your coursework, so it's polished and ready for submission before the deadline.

4

Complete the Required Documents

You and your tutor will both need to complete and sign documents from the examination board to authenticate your coursework. Some subjects require specific forms — this step is mandatory, as boards won't accept coursework without them.

5

Wait for Feedback

After marking, you'll receive your coursework marks and feedback. Use this to understand how you've done and make sure your work is ready for submission to the board.

Always Communicate

Keep the lines of communication open with both your tutor and the centre. If you're not happy with your tutor for any reason, just let us know — we'll happily arrange an alternative if needed.
